History had to be written without you: Mbappé justifies his controversial PSG departure
After leaving Paris Saint-Germain following seven intense seasons, Kylian Mbappé saw his former club win the Champions League shortly after his departure. A scenario that could have sparked regret, but the Real Madrid forward now insists he fully stands by his decision. Speaking on the podcast The Bridge, the French international reflects with clarity on this turning point. “If I had left earlier and they had won, maybe I would have felt some resentment. But for me, I had reached the end,” he explains, convinced that his chapter in Paris had come to a close.
For Mbappé, leaving felt almost inevitable. “When I decide to leave, it’s because my book has no more pages. The story has to be written without you,” he says, describing a natural transition toward a new phase in his career.
No Regrets Despite the Timing of PSG’s Triumph
Despite the European title secured without him, the Bondy-born star refuses to feel any bitterness. On the contrary, he emphasizes the strong bond he still maintains with PSG. “I experienced everything in Paris, I loved being there. When you’ve loved a place, you can’t feel hatred,” he states.
Now fully focused on his journey in Madrid, Mbappé keeps a clear objective in mind: winning the Champions League himself. A challenge he continues to pursue with ambition, having come close to the title several times while wearing the Paris jersey.
