Manchester derby player ratings: Harry Maguire stands tall as Phil Foden struggles
Manchester United silenced neighbours City with a comprehensive 2-0 victory at Old Trafford on an afternoon when the hosts also had three goals ruled out for offside.
Here, Telegraph Sport runs the rule over the performances of both sets of players. You can leave your own score for each player and join the debate in the comments section at the bottom of the page
Manchester United
Senne Lammens
Suffered one first-half wobble when he palmed nervously at a drifting Jérémy Doku inswinger, then atoned immediately with a brave save from Max Alleyne.
Diogo Dalot
Only booked after putting his studs into Doku’s knee inside 11 minutes, and had to show discipline after that.
Harry Maguire
Stood his ground when City got physical, and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in. Inches from giving United the perfect start when he hit the bar.
Lisandro Martínez
Defensive experience was needed during City’s spells of pressure – fine second-half block to keep out Haaland was evidence of that.
Luke Shaw
Had his hands full with Semenyo, and his job was made even harder by an early booking for sending Rodri flying.
Casemiro
How he did not score from close range in the second half, perhaps even he won’t know. Grew into the game after a testing first half.
Kobbie Mainoo
Showed great enthusiasm as he made his first Premier League start of the season, and will improve with a run of games to build momentum.
Amad Diallo
United have missed his threat during his time at the Africa Cup of Nations – only denied a first-half goal by a hairline offside decision.
Bruno Fernandes
Excellent in the No 10 role, and involved in both of United’s disallowed first-half goals.
Patrick Dorgu
A lively, energetic display, with much of United’s building down the left going through him. Deserved his goal.
Bryan Mbeumo
Accommodated in an attacking role at the expense of Matheus Cunha, and completely justified his inclusion with one moment of cool finishing.
Substitutes
Cunha came on to make his case for a return to the starting line-up after Mbeumo had run himself to a standstill, and created a goal for Dorgu.
Manchester City
Gianluigi Donnarumma
Sharp off his line throughout, and produced a superb double save from Amad and Casemiro, followed by another stop from Mbeumo.
Rico Lewis
Took his chances to get forward but had much defending to do as well, with Dorgu giving him a hard time.
Abdukodir Khusanov
Vital first-half interception denied Mbeumo a goal. The young centre-back steadied himself after a wobbly start.
Max Alleyne
Two early passes went into touch, and needed his keeper to bail him out after another slip. Almost scored before being replaced at half-time.
Nathan Aké
Struggled to keep Amad quiet in the first half at left-back, before switching into the middle, but couldn’t keep United at bay.
Rodri
One uncharacteristically loose pass in first half almost gifted goal to Mbeumo, and a booking further spoiled his day.
Antoine Semenyo
Unable to maintain his fine start at City, though still carried a threat in patches, and one fine cross almost produced a goal for Bernardo.
Phil Foden
A serial scorer against United in the past, but he just could not get into the game here, and was replaced at half-time.
Bernardo Silva
Involved in most of City’s best work going forward – his reaction at heading over a first-half chance showed he knew he should have scored it..
Jérémy Doku
Understandably shaken up by Dalot’s early display of physicality, but continued to cause the United back line problems.
One chance in the second half, blocked by Martínez, was the sum total of his day. United fans cheered his departure as he was substituted.
Substitutes
Rayan Cherki failed to add an attacking threat, and Nico O’Reilly picked up an instant yellow card at left-back. Reijnders, Ait-Nouri and Mukasa came on when the game was lost.
