Indonesia condemns Israeli attack in Doha as betrayal of peace process
Indonesia has condemned Israel’s recent attack in Doha, Qatar—targeting the Palestinian group Hamas—as a betrayal of the peace process.
This stance was conveyed by Ambassador Achsanul Habib, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Indonesia in Geneva, during the Urgent Debate at the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Geneva, Switzerland,
“As a member of the Human Rights Council, Indonesia condemns the attack on Qatar—a country serving as a mediator—as a betrayal of the peace process and a grave violation of the UN Charter and international law,” Habib stated in a release from PTRI Geneva.
The Ambassador emphasized that such military actions have eroded trust, undermined hopes for peace in Gaza, and must not go unpunished.
“The international community must act decisively,” he urged.
Indonesia further stressed that lasting peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without a Two-State Solution, reaffirming its full support for Qatar, Palestine, and all nations that uphold justice, defend sovereignty, and champion the values of humanity.
The Urgent Debate was convened at the request of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to address Israel’s military aggression against Qatar on September 9, 2025.
In his opening remarks, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk described Israel’s strike on negotiators in Doha as a shocking breach of international law and an assault on regional peace and security.
He echoed UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who denounced the attack as a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The strong participation of Human Rights Council members, observer states, and NGOs—93 national statements and 12 from international NGOs—reflected the global community’s deep concern over Israel’s continued violations of international law and its collective resolve to end impunity.
