Manchester United outcast ready to follow in Marcus Rashford’s footsteps as Old Trafford exit beckons
Alejandro Garnacho is ready to leave Manchester United for Aston Villa
For some time now, being a Manchester United fan has felt like living on a never-ending rollercoaster ride. Every summer brings promises, new names and, at the same time, painful departures, and this summer is no different. After seeing Marcus Rashford go on loan to Barça, now Alejandro Garnacho’s name is being mentioned as a possible departure. Just when one thought he was going to be key in this new era with Amorim, interest from Aston Villa, Chelsea and Spurs has emerged. What seemed crazy a year ago is now starting to look possible.
The club are coming off seasons where stability has been scarce. Since Ferguson’s departure, there have been coaches, styles and broken promises. Ten Hag arrived with energy, but never managed to consolidate the team. Now, with Ruben Amorim at the helm, the club is trying to change course again. Amorim is committed to a clear 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation, but he does not seem to have everyone on board. In that system, several players feel out of place. Garnacho, despite his talent, does not seem to fit in. Although he shone last season with 11 goals and 10 assists, his internal situation has become tense.
Garnacho looks to Villa: an option that is beginning to appeal
TBR Football reports that Garnacho is not ruling out a move to Aston Villa this summer. Chelsea and Spurs are following him closely, but Unai Emery has apparently sparked something in the Argentine. The media outlet points out that Garnacho has already researched the Spanish coach and views his project favourably. Emery has brought out the best in young players such as Morgan Rogers, and Villa are looking to make headlines in the transfer market. The 21-year-old winger could be their big signing of the summer. The Argentine wants to stay in England, and his destination could be closer to Birmingham than London.
A different kind of talent that may not have a place at Old Trafford
Garnacho has pace, goalscoring ability and that rebellious streak that people love. He has games where he reminds us of the young Cristiano: direct, electric, brave. However, Amorim does not see him as the ideal fit for his 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation, albeit due to some off-field comments. The coach wants wingers who defend much more or who think more about the team. Garnacho is free-flowing, more individual, and that, in this new United, is almost a death sentence. The player wants minutes, prominence and a coach who understands him. Emery could offer him that at Villa Park.
As United fans, this hurts. Garnacho is one of us. He came up through the youth ranks, exploded into the first team and gave us some unique moments. Losing him now, when he is only 21, feels like giving up our identity, but we also understand that Amorim is building something different. If the coach doesn’t want him, keeping him will only create conflict. If Villa offers a good sum. even if £70 million seems far-fetched, the club can reinvest wisely. Cunha and Mbeumo have already arrived. We need a number 9 and maybe another centre-back.
Losing Garnacho isn’t just losing goals or assists. It’s losing character, cheekiness, and a player who can break any game in a second, but if he’s not on the same wavelength as the coach, there is no going back. What worries us is seeing him shine and grow in another Premier League team. Rashford benefitted from his time at Villa Park, eventually moving to Barcelona. Garnacho can take heart from it and hope for a similar turnaround in fortunes, even if it is away from Old Trafford.
