Minister points need to bolster resilience of migrant worker families

Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi emphasized the importance of strengthening the resilience of Indonesian migrant worker families as well as opening better opportunities for them to work and develop.

"We must strengthen the resilience of migrant worker families and open opportunities for them to work and develop better, both in the country and abroad," the minister

Fauzi believes Indonesian migrant women workers play a vital role in boosting family economies and significantly contributing to the country.

However, they also encounter significant challenges, including legal uncertainty, gender-based violence, and social impacts on the children they leave behind in their home country.

To address this, Fauzi emphasized that cross-sector synergy is the main key to presenting a comprehensive solution.

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection inked a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection regarding synergy in women's empowerment and child protection for Indonesian migrant workers and their families.

Through this collaboration, the government is committed to strengthening the protection mechanism that is more responsive and oriented towards the welfare of women and children.

She expressed hope that with improved policies, migrant workers and their families will experience tangible benefits from those policies in their daily lives.

The minister noted that the cooperation between the two ministries also aims to increase access to education and protection for the children of migrant workers.

She highlighted that a responsive protection mechanism is crucial for maintaining the welfare of the women and children of Indonesian migrant workers.

"We must ensure that every migrant worker and their families get better access to their rights, including legal protection, education, and economic empowerment," Fauzi remarked.
