Sovereignty, winner of Kentucky Derby, skipping Preakness Stakes

Image
With its win in the 151st Kentucky Derby on Saturday, Sovereignty had the chance to run to be the latest horse to win the Triple Crown. However, just three days after winning the run for the roses, he will not be going for that achievement after that. Per a press release by Pimlico working the Preakness Stakes, Sovereignty will not be competing two weekends from now on May 17th in the 150th running of it in Maryland. Their team will instead begin preparing him for the third leg of it instead with the Belmont Stakes coming at the start of next month in New York. “We received the call today from trainer Bill Mott that Sovereignty will not be competing in the Preakness. Bill informed us they would point toward the Belmont Stakes,” wrote Mike Rogers in the release. “We extend our congratulations to the connections to Sovereignty and respect their decision.” “We continue to see the excitement building toward the milestone celebration of the 150th Preakness Stakes, and we look forward ...

Miami not at level to compete at Club World Cup - Busquets

Image
Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets admitted the MLS club is not up to the level of competition that will be seen at the 2025 Club World Cup, but insisted the team will fight to advance out of the group stage regardless of the opponents. "It's clear that we are not at the level to compete at the Club World Cup, but we will try to compete in our group," Busquets told DAZN. "Go game by game, fight and hopefully advance to the next round though it'll be difficult." His statement comes after the Vancouver Whitecaps eliminated Inter Miami from the Concacaf Champions Cup in the semifinals, winning 5-1 on aggregate over two legs. The Herons first fell 2-0 at BC Place in Vancouver before suffering the final 3-1 defeat at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Following the elimination, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano emphasized the Whitecaps clearly proved to be the superior team on the field before insisting the Herons must look to improve in the future. ...

Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard agreed on player Man Utd could sign in Marcus Rashford swap

Image
Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard, two Liverpool greats, have previously given their seal of approval for Manchester United's potential mega swap deal involving Marcus Rashford this summer. The Red Devils are considering a sensational swap deal that would see Rashford's loan move to Aston Villa become permanent in exchange for Ollie Watkins, according to the Daily Star. Rashford has been plying his trade at Villa Park since January, contributing four assists and two goals in 14 appearances after being sidelined by Ruben Amorim at United. Previously valued at $53 million (£40 million) by Manchester United, the 27-year-old England international could now be used as a bargaining chip to secure Watkins. Amorim is on the hunt for a top-class number nine and Watkins' current predicament could play into his hands. Watkins has been left frustrated due to limited game time since January, with Unai Emery favouring Rashford as his main striker. Despite being benched for most of April,...

Ralf Rangnick offers brutal explanation for Man Utd's struggles

Image
Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has issued a scathing review of the club's current situation, insisting they are "significantly worse" than when he first publicised their issues. Appointed before Erik ten Hag became manager in 2022, Rangnick led United on an interim basis for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign with a view to becoming a club advisor, and the German did not hold back with his assessment of the team at the time. He called for "open heart surgery" and a full rebuild behind the scenes. While new minority owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have moved to provide the latter, things on the field have taken a drastic turn, with United struggling down in 14th in the Premier League standings under Ruben Amorim. Appearing as a pundit on Canal+, Rangnick was asked for his opinion on his former employers' struggles, and he quickly hit out at those in charge for their decisions since his departure. "A few basic things nee...

Philippines raises alert level at active volcano after eruption sends ash 4.5km into sky

Image
Mount Bulusan , an active volcano in central Philippines, erupted early on Monday, sending ash 4.5 km into the sky. The eruption was phreatic, or steam-driven, lasting 24 minutes from 4.36am local time, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed. It produced a plume that reached 4.5km in height, triggering ashfall in Cogon and Bolos in Irosin, as well as in Puting Sapa, Guruyan, Buraburan, and Tulatula Sur in Juban, according to Rappler. Phivolcs raised its alert level from 0 to 1, indicating low-level volcanic unrest and the risk of phreatic eruptions. Scientists say that a phreatic eruption occurs when water beneath the earth’s surface comes into contact with hot magma or rocks, causing it to rapidly turn into steam and explode. These eruptions are steam-driven, ejecting ash, gas, and debris, but do not involve new magma. In the lead-up to the eruption on Monday, which took place between 4.36am and 5.00am, Phivolcs had detected 53 volcanic earthq...

Waymo robotaxis may be available to buy one day

Image
Alphabet's Waymo might let you buy one of their robotaxis for yourself — but it's unclear when, or at what price. According to Reuters, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said the company is considering this possibility. "There is future optionality for personal ownership," he said, without offering any additional details. While that's as vague as can be, it's still interesting that Waymo is looking at selling its robotaxis to private individuals in the future. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been talking about this for years, and the company is planning on launching its Cybercab autonomous car sometime in 2026. Tesla vehicles are capable of partially autonomous driving thanks to the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) set of features, which is currently offered to users for beta testing. Waymo, however, is ahead of Tesla's game in one key aspect: While Tesla has only recently started an autonomous ride-hailing service (and only as a very limited beta), Waymo has been...
